A Gen(re)Gen Table (short for Generational Regeneration Table) is a guided gathering where people of all ages come together to explore how we can regenerate our communities, our ecosystems, and our shared future — by weaving together the wisdom, lived experience, and long view of older generations with the creativity, innovation, and agency of younger ones.
It’s a space for intergenerational imagination.
A space for sharing and listening.
A space for new stories.
A space for regenerating what comes next — together.
Bring the concept of Generational Health to the table with family, friends, neighbours, or colleagues.
You don’t need to be an expert.
You just need a table, some time, and a willingness to listen.
What is a Gen(re)Gen Table?
A Gen(re)Gen Table is a 60–120 minute conversation hosted around a kitchen table, office boardroom, classroom, community centre or backyard.
It’s designed to:
- Bring together different generations and perspectives
- Create space for honest, hopeful conversation about our shared future
- Turn concern about the planet into small, meaningful actions
- Strengthen relationships while building a culture of stewardship
You can host a Gen(re)Gen Table with:
- Family members across generations
- Friends and neighbors
- Colleagues or your team at work
- A community, faith, or school group
Why Host One?
1. To talk about what really matters
We spend so much time talking about schedules and headlines — and so little time talking about the world we’re leaving behind. A Gen(re)Gen Table makes room for that deeper conversation.
2. To move from worry to action
Many of us feel overwhelmed by climate news and social change. Sharing stories, hopes and fears together helps people feel less alone and more empowered to act.
3. To strengthen intergenerational connection
Younger and older generations often see the world differently — and both perspectives are needed. A Gen(re)Gen Table invites everyone to listen, learn, and imagine together.
4. To begin a new kind of legacy
Legacy is not only about wealth. It’s about the health of the planet, our communities and our relationships. Hosting a Gen(re)Gen Table is a powerful first step in shaping that legacy.
How a Gen(re)Gen Table Works
1. Gather your people
Invite 4–10 people you’d like to have a meaningful conversation with — family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, or a mix.
2. Set the space
Choose a comfortable setting: around a dinner table, in a living room, at a café, or in a meeting room. Light a candle, put on tea, or bring snacks — whatever makes it feel welcoming.
3. Create space for everyone as a host
- Set the tone with a warm welcome and simple ground rules (listen openly, speak from experience).
- Choose 4-6 conversation prompts at the link below to keep the conversation flowing.
- Allow each person space to share; no one needs to be an expert or have all of the answers.
4. Choose your prompts
Pick a handful of Generational Health Conversation Prompts to guide the conversation. You can focus on:
- Starting the conversation
- Reflecting on the present
- Imagining the future
- Taking action
- Family & community legacy
5. Commit to one next step
Close your gathering by asking each participant to answer:
“What is one small action we each feel inspired to take?”
You can capture these actions on a shared document or in a group chat that is accessible to all participants.
Where Can You Host a Gen(re)Gen Table?
With Family
Use a Gen(re)Gen Table at a family dinner, during holidays, or when multiple generations are together. Talk about the future you want your family to help build.
With Friends or Neighbors
Host a potluck, backyard bbq, or coffee circle. Explore how you can support each other in making small sustainable shifts in your daily lives.
At Work
Use a Gen(re)Gen Table as a lunch-and-learn, offsite session, or team-building activity. Invite colleagues to reflect on personal and organizational responsibility for long-term wellbeing.
In Schools or Community Groups
Adapt the prompts for students, clubs, or community organizations. Give young people a voice in imagining the future.
Tips for a Great Gen(re)Gen Table
- Start with care. Offer a warm welcome. Acknowledge that talking about the future can bring up emotion — and that all feelings are welcome.
- Set simple agreements. For example: listen without interrupting, speak from your own experience, no one has to share more than they’re comfortable with.
- Invite every voice. Pay attention to who hasn’t spoken yet. Gently invite them in, without pressure.
- Keep it human, not technical. This is about stories, feelings, values, and everyday actions – not about being an expert.
- End with gratitude and action. Thank everyone for showing up. Ask each person to name one thing they’re taking away and one small step they’ll try.
